The Addams Family Musical

Sunday is the last day of the Portland Opera's presentation of The Addams Family musical. The show features an original story and it's every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren't upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he's never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents.

Showtimes are 7:30pm Friday, 2pm and 7:30pm Saturday, and 1pm and 6:30pm on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased online. The Portland Opera is located at 222 Shaw Street [map].

Three Keys to an Easier Home Buying Experience

For many Americans, buying a home is the most significant purchase they’ll make in their lifetimes. The entire housing crisis has created a lot of turmoil and confusion, adding on to what was already a daunting task. But, take a deep breath. Things are much better than they were a couple of years ago, and as before, there are some basic things you can do to make the process of buying a Portland, Oregon home less stressful. Here are three key things to do:

Choosing Your Agent – Unless you’ve done this a lot, you’ll want to have an experienced agent on your side. This means using a buyer’s agent, who you pay, instead of a subagent who is paid by the seller and represents their interests, not yours. Because the subagent is ethically required to report what you say to them to their clients, you may regret things you do say to them. An agent representing you will be in a better position to make sure you get the best possible deal. Your actual cost for using a buyer’sagent can be offset by putting in your offer that the seller pays the agent’s commission. And by the fact that the agent is working to get you a better deal.
Choose a Good Investment – No matter how long you live in it, your new home is an investment. And you need to treat it just like you would any other financial investment. That means buying a home that is going to appreciate in value over time.  A beautiful home can be a terrible investment if you wind up paying more than the structure is worth. Don’t let your heart overrule sound financial decisions. Make sure you use a professional home inspector for a written report that includes general estimates of repair costs.
Plan Ahead – Don’t wait to learn about your mortgage options. Before you make an offer, research and understand the types of mortgages available and which lender offers the best rates. Work with your agent to determine what paperwork you’re going to need when you make an offer, and get as much of it ready ahead of time as possible.  Making an offer and buying a home is stressful, but you can make the process a lot easier if you’ve already handled these details. If this will be your first home purchase, make sure you take advantage of first-time home buyer programs.

Looking For A Decorating APP? We Have One!

Sometimes all you need is just a little inspiration. That can be especially true when it comes
to decorating your home. You’ve seen the same walls, window treatments and furniture for long enough that it’s hard to imagine anything else.
That’s where a service like DecorPad  comes in handy. It is, in many ways, a social network for home design fans. It’s available on the internet and as a free iPhone app.

Photographs are the key to DecorPad, and many show off the work of top interior designers, complete with notes and explanations. You can view photographs by various room categories, such as bedrooms and kitchens. As a member of the community, you can upload your own photos and get comments from other users.

Color choices are also a way to view the site. In the Paint Gallery section, you choose a color and are then presented with hundreds of pictures of rooms utilizing that particular color. It’s excellent inspiration for thinking outside the off-white paint can.

And, of course, DecorPad helps you shop for the best values. The Look 4 Less section has a variety of gorgeous choices that can replace far more expensive items. For example, a $20 throw pillow at Target that’s a near match to an $89 dollar designer pillow.

As members navigate the site, they can gather photographs they like and save them into sets, for sharing and later reference. And you can discuss design issues in the forums with other members. There are other similar apps and sites, but DecorPad has been around since 2008 and has more than 80,000 registered members. It’s a big community, and it may be perfect for you.
